“Our opposition is to the thing which once existed, in order that they may never return. We oppose money in politics, we oppose the private control of national finances, we oppose the treating of human being as commodities, we oppose the saloon-bossed city, we oppose starvation wages, we oppose rule by groups or cliques. In the same way we oppose a mere period of coma in our national life….”
Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Acceptance Speech For Vice-Presidential Nomination, Hyde Park, August 9, 1920. From: Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Great Speeches, Edited by John Grafton, Dover Publications.
F.D.R.’s 1920 speech proves we have been trying to accomplish a means to exclude big corporate, wealthy and super PAC’s out of our political system. The responsibility rests upon our shoulders to pursue an Amendment to our Constitution. We know that big corporations charge us financially for their operations that include huge amounts of money given to areas of our political system.
Please imagine for a moment, if part of legislation to conform to a Constitutional Amendment is a requirement upon corporations/like entities to reduce billing by the money that was once held within their budget for lobbying efforts? Such would be the greatest tax-break all of us could expect. Less money on every utility, every loan or credit card, gasoline to even the automobile you use for transport. Big corporations have large amounts of foreign funds now allowed in our political system.
A common saying, “All politicians lie.” Money by the millions buying media time, “lame-stream media” telling us anything they think they could have us believe. Why is a lie from a politician acceptable to us? A person with ethics would condemn a politician who uses an actor/actress to give us a false impression, readily played by the “lame-stream media”. Political ads on the media, including any mail you may receive, stating false information that when challenged the political ad is pulled, but a politician without ethics would do nothing else after discontinuing a false ad. A politician with ethics would put as much into ensuring a correction is ran in the media to, at least, the same exposure, reaching at least the same number of people to prove the honesty of the politician. Everyone knows we often have a political choice of the lesser of two evils.
“Government is a necessary evil of society.” Common Sense, by Thomas Paine.
Civil rights, women’s rights, corporate fraud, government fraud, jobs, economy, war, environment all the issues you hold dear to your heart can all be corrected if we kept a single ideal in-mind when voting; does the candidate support our Amendment to the Constitution! Votes, not money, should determine our elections. The candidates for President of Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter were paid entirely with government funds for their campaign.
Once we realize the huge effects the appropriate Constitutional Amendment is when “We the People…” take-back our government. The political divide in our Legislative Branch would end. The Legislative Branch has already in our Constitution the ability to regulate the Judicial Branch, to add ethics so no Justice of the Supreme Court appears or hears a case of partisan political activity. Participation in any partisan political activity is merely common sense ethical conduct known to the public.
Our struggle is difficult with many hurdles. We know now the corporate media is one of the strongest political groups sacrificing journalistic ethics in-favor of partisan political activity. The struggle for your political support is the media and partisan political entities.
The time is now for us to force political support for our Constitutional Amendment. Let’s not be politically naïve while we continue our struggle. One single group will never succeed, only when we all work together with our different forms of Constitutional Amendment will such become a pure Amendment and pass Congress and directly to the States for ratification.
